This Blind Filipina is the Mariah Carey of the Philippines

A video showing a blind Pinay effortlessly belting out Mariah Carey’s version of “I’ll Be There” inside a music store in a mall is making rounds online after the successful one-night concert of pop star on Tuesday.According to Jeff Alagar, who uploaded her video on YouTube, she is Katchry Jewel Golbin, also know as Alienette Coldfire on Facebook. The 4-minute-18-second video showcased Golbin’s singing talent while belting out the 1993 karaoke hit that drew attentions from mall-goers and cheered her on. Alagar wrote on the video description, “We had to look twice as the video started because it was so good I thought she was lip syncing. But this is all genuine vocals coming from this little gem. Can you imagine if they put this girl in a professional studio refine her vocal abilities and put her behind a good mic and record her voice like they do the pros?” Though this video was uploaded on June 8 of this year, it is going viral now that inspired lots of people. One people commented, “You may not be able to see the world but your VOICE shows the world how blessed you are. You have touched my heart.” A Capiz-native girl, Golbin’s Facebook account reached 4,499 friends and 2,575 followers. Just recently, Carey, who is famous for her five-octave vocal range, power, and signature use of the whistle register, concluded the Manila leg of her “Elusive Chanteuse” tour on Tuesday night. She said on her official Twitter account, moments after the show: “Mahal kita Manila!!!” The American pop diva referred to as the “songbird supreme” by the Guinness World Records is set to head over to Thailand for an October 30 show, before wrapping up the worldwide tour in Australia and New Zealand. She has sold more than 200 million records worldwide, and has received more than 50 awards throughout her career, most notably her five Grammy wins. What do you think of Golbin?
